Melina Nava Perez^[6] (born March 9, 1979), better known simply as Melina, is an American professional wrestler currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestling on its Raw brand.

After becoming interested in wrestling, Melina joined the independent professional wrestling circuit before ultimately joining WWE in 2004.^[1]^[2]^[7] Initially, she was pushed as a manager for the tag team of MNM.^[8] She managed them to a record three reigns as WWE Tag Team Champions,^[9] as well as managed former boyfriend and MNM member Johnny Nitro to two reigns as WWE Intercontinental Champion.^[10]^[11]

Melina made her WWE singles debut in 2005. She is a two-time former WWE Women's Champion, winning the belt twice in 2007.

Perez began her career as a model. She won a Miss California beauty contest and also modeled athletic wear for Nike.^[11] She decided to become a professional wrestler after talking to Empire Wrestling Federation (EWF) superstar Mike Henderson in 2000.^[1]^[7]^[13] Perez started training at Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California and made her professional debut in April 2002.^[14]^[15] She joined a number of California-based promotions such as the EWF, where she wrestled under the ring name Kyra, and CRUSH, as Melanie Little Deer.^[2] Many EWF officials stated that she had the most natural ability of any woman who came through their school.^[16] In late 2002 Perez auditioned for World Wrestling Entertainment's reality show Tough Enough III, making it through to the final 21 before being eliminated from the competition in the final cut of the first episode.^[4]^[16]^[17]^[18] After being eliminated from the contest, trainer Al Snow pulled Perez aside and encouraged her to keep trying to pursue her dream as a wrestler.

Perez debuted in WWE's developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in March 2004, being placed in an angle as John Hennigan's ex-girlfriend. The storyline had Matt Cappotelli introduce her to the ring as a way to taunt Hennigan.^[5] Melina, however, turned on Cappotelli and aligned herself with Hennigan, who later changed his ring name to Johnny Nitro.^[5] Soon after, Melina and Nitro began teaming with Joey Matthews, later known as Joey Mercury.^[5] The trio became known as MNM and on November 10, Melina managed Mercury and Nitro to win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship.^[8] During her time in OVW, Melina, Nitro, and Steven Adkins came up with Melina's trademark split ring entrance.^[20]

While in OVW, Melina made occasional appearances on WWE television. On a Thanksgiving episode of SmackDown! in 2003, she dressed up as a Native American and was shown serving food and drinks.^[21] Melina made her first Raw appearance on November 29, 2004 when Randy Orton was the guest General Manager and hosted a diva lingerie fashion show.^[22] She made another Raw appearance in December, participating in a limbo contest when Chris Jericho was General Manager for the night.

On January 29, 2007, Melina became the number 1 contender for the WWE Women's Championship, as well as introduced her finisher from the independent circuit, the Kyrapractor, to WWE under the new name California Dream.^[54] On February 5 Melina lost a title match against Mickie James.^[55] The following week on Raw, Melina pinned James in a mixed tag team match and then challenged James again for the title.^[56] On February 19, as part of her first major singles push, Melina successfully pinned James, making her the only former Tough Enough contestant to have won the WWE Women's Championship. In continuation of their storyline feud, retained the title in a rematch during the first ever Women's Falls Count Anywhere match in WWE history.^[57]^[58]

In March, Melina was placed in an angle where she became jealous of SmackDown! Diva Ashley Massaro, who was receiving attention because of her appearance in Playboy.^[59] The angle had Melina claim in her blogs that no Playboy cover models were capable of fighting her.^[60] This resulted in scheduled matches against former Playboy cover girls Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle, with both women losing to Melina.^[61]^[62] The storyline came to a close at WrestleMania 23, where Melina pinned Ashley in a Lumberjill match to retain her Women's Championship.^[63]

After WrestleMania, Melina organized a photo op with the Women's Title belt in the ring but was interrupted by Mickie James, resulting in another storyline feud between the two Divas.^[64] On April 24 at a house show in Paris, France, Melina lost the Women's Championship in a Triple Threat match to James when James pinned Victoria, but on the orders of Jonathan Coachman she was entitled to a rematch on the same night, where she pinned James to regain the title and become a two-time WWE Women's Champion.^[65]

On May 7 Melina was defeated in a tag team match when she was pinned by Candice Michelle.^[66] Melina was scripted to lose to Candice in various tag team matches, as well as in non-title bouts over the next few weeks.^[67]^[68]^[69] At Vengeance, Melina dropped the Women's Championship to Candice, and failed to recapture the title at The Great American Bash

Melina, along with then ally Beth Phoenix, defeated Maria and Ashley at WrestleMania 24.^[72] After Phoenix lost the Women's Championship to Mickie James, she began a feud with Melina when she accidentally hit Phoenix with her boot in a lumberjack match against James. The following week on Raw, Phoenix walked out on Melina during a tag match against James and Maria when Melina accidentally bumped Phoenix off the apron. Melina then attacked Phoenix after doing commentary on her match, thus turning her face. Torrie Wilson (born July 24, 1975) is a retired American professional wrestler, fitness competitor and model perhaps best known for her work with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), most recently working on its SmackDown! brand.

As a fitness competitor, Wilson won the Miss Galaxy competition in 1998.[4][6] Shortly after, she was signed by World Championship Wrestling, where she stayed from 1999 until 2001.[5][6][7] In 2001, she began appearing on World Wrestling Federation (WWF) television as part of The Invasion storyline.[1] Her most high profile storyline took place in 2003 when she feuded with Dawn Marie.[1][8] Wilson has also been a part of the all-female stable, or group of affiliated wrestlers, known as Vince's Devils, which ended its run in 2006.[2]

Aside from wrestling, Wilson has been on the cover of several magazines, including FHM and Playboy, which she posed for twice.

Wilson was born in Boise, Idaho,^[4] and she claims that she was painfully shy growing up.^[6]^[8]^[9] She quickly found friends, however, in her small town.^[4] She found her niche in many school activities, including cheerleading and dance, and was very competitive in track and field.^[4]^[6]

During her sophomore year of high school, after Wilson's interest in modeling grew more serious, her mother urged her to pursue it.^[4] They visited an agency and were informed that Torrie would have to lose weight to be considered for jobs.^[4] In the process of losing weight, she began a bout with anorexia and then bulimia that lasted from ages fourteen to twenty.^[4]^[6]

After recovering from the disorder, Wilson became involved in fitness.^[4]^[5] She began eating six meals a day and working out.^[6] She placed third in her first competition,^[4] and she later won the Miss Galaxy competition in 1998.^[4]^[6] She then spent some time on the Extreme Fitness Team.^[10] As part of the Women's Tri-Fitness Championships in 1998, Wilson won first place in the Grace and Physique round.^[11]

Later in 1998, Wilson moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.^[4]^[8] She began acting classes and was introduced to an agent who helped her gain a few jobs.

Wilson's start in wrestling came when she attended a World Championship Wrestling (WCW) show with her boyfriend in 1999.^[5]^[6]^[8] After going backstage, she was asked to walk out to the ring with Scott Steiner.^[5] Later, Kevin Nash expressed an interest in doing a storyline with her.^[1]^[5]^[8] She debuted as "Samantha", who was brought in by the nWo to seduce David Flair into turning on his father, Ric Flair.^[1]^[12] They appeared together on February 21 when Wilson slapped Ric Flair, and David zapped him with a taser.^[13] At the 1999 Bash at the Beach, Wilson acted as a valet for Flair as he captured the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship from Dean Malenko.^[1]

Although she left WCW television afterwards, she returned in the fall of 1999 under her real name.^[1] Wilson began managing Billy Kidman and his Filthy Animals teammates.^[1] As a result, she found herself involved in the Animals continuing feud with The Revolution.^[1] In November, Wilson and Eddie Guerrero were shown flirting on the "Kidcam," a hidden camera segment, which led to a storyline feud between Kidman and Guerrero.^[1] Following this, Wilson once again disappeared from television. Wilson, however, returned on January 19, 2000, and in April 2000, Kidman and Wilson joined a stable known as the New Blood, making them both heels, or villainous characters. As part of their newest storyline, Kidman became jealous of the attention Wilson began to give to fellow New Blood member Horace Hogan. In June, Wilson gave Kidman a low blow at the Great American Bash, causing him to lose to Horace’s uncle, Hulk Hogan.^[1]

Wilson was taken off of television following the encounter, reappearing at July's Bash at the Beach during a match between Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell. After the match, Wilson and Douglas left together, which led to a feud between Kidman and Douglas.^[14] At September's Fall Brawl, Wilson and Douglas defeated Kidman and Madusa in a mixed tag team match with scaffolding erected above the ring.^[7] Wilson was released from her contract in December 2000.

Wilson made her WWF television debut on the June 28, 2001 episode of SmackDown! as part of The Alliance during the Invasion angle in 2001.^[1] In her first storyline with the company, she portrayed Vince McMahon's latest affair.^[15] She also regularly teamed with fellow WCW performer Stacy Keibler. The duo made their wrestling debuts in the WWF in a Bra and Panties match against Lita and Trish Stratus at the InVasion pay-per-view, which Stratus and Lita won by stripping their opponents to their underwear. The following night on RAW, Wilson defeated Stratus in a Paddle on a Pole match.^[7] Despite her relative lack of in-ring experience, Wilson, alongside Keibler and Ivory, regularly feuded with the WWE Divas,^[16] as well as interfering in matches on behalf of other wrestlers in The Alliance.

She turned face, a character who is a fan favorite, during the Invasion storyline when her character began an on-screen romance with Tajiri.^[1] This new romance caused Keibler to turn on Wilson, and as a result, Wilson defected to the WWF. Wilson defeated Keibler in a lingerie match at No Mercy defeating her opponent in a ring full of pillows, while dressed in lingerie.

In May 2003, Wilson appeared in a pictorial and on the cover of Playboy.^[1] A few months earlier, when her pictorial was announced, a short storyline feud with Nidia developed, with the latter being jealous of the fact that Wilson was picked for the cover and spread in the magazine.^[25] In weekly vignettes aired on SmackDown!, both Nidia and her on-screen boyfriend Jamie Noble made trips to The Playboy Mansion to complain to Hugh Hefner about his picking Wilson over Nidia.^[25]

Soon after, on an April 2003 episode of SmackDown! during a segment labeled as Torrie's Playboy Coming Out Party former diva and Playboy centerfold Sable made her return to WWE after a three year absence.^[1] This began a storyline between the two women where for weeks, Sable played mind games with Wilson, being friendly one moment and unfriendly the next.^[26] This all led up to a bikini contest between the two at Judgment Day, which Wilson won.^[27] After the contest, Wilson kissed the former Women's Champion Sable on the lips, showing her that there was "no hard feelings" due to Wilson's win over the WWE veteran.^[28]

Continuing her feud with Noble and Nidia from earlier in the year, Wilson managed Billy Gunn upon his WWE return in the summer of 2003.^[1] The feud came to an end after Nidia and Noble both turned face and sided with Gunn and Wilson. After the formation of this alliance, Wilson, Nidia, and Dawn Marie feuded with Shaniqua for a short period of time, which led to Shaniqua physically dominating Wilson and Nidia in a handicap match.^[7]

Wilson teamed with Sable in March 2004 to feud with RAW divas Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie.^[1] The feud centered around the latter duo's storyline jealously of Wilson and Sable's Playboy cover status, as well as their recently being named cover girls yet again, as the two divas were announced to be featured together in an upcoming Playboy March 2004 issue.^[1] After weeks of rivalry, Wilson and Sable defeated Keibler and Miss Jackie in a Playboy Evening Gown match at WrestleMania XX by stripping their opponents of their evening gowns.^[1]^[29] Later in the year, Wilson engaged in a short feud with Sable, who defeated her at the Great American Bash.^[1]

In November 2004, Wilson began feuding with Hiroko.^[1] On February 10, 2005 on a special edition of SmackDown! (recorded on February 4 in Saitama, Japan), Torrie defeated Hiroko in a kimono match by removing her kimono first.

Patricia Anne Stratigias^[6]^[10] (born December 18, 1975, pronounced /strætɨˈdʒiːəs/), better known by her stage name Trish Stratus, is a former fitness model, former professional wrestler and television personality from Canada.

After beginning her career as a fitness model, Stratus began working for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which was later renamed World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), in March 2000. Early in her career, she was involved in sexually themed angles, such as managing the team T & A and a storyline affair with Vince McMahon. As Stratus spent more time in the ring, her wrestling skills and popularity strengthened. Because of this, she was a one-time WWE Hardcore Champion, three-time "WWE Babe of the Year" and was proclaimed "Diva of the Decade".^[3]^[11]

After nearly seven years in the business, Stratus retired from wrestling on September 17, 2006 after winning her seventh WWE Women's Championship, the most in WWE history.^[12]

The next night on Raw Stratus began her first role in the company, managing Test and Albert in the tag team T & A.^[2]^[13] It was during her stint managing T & A that Stratus took her first major bump in the ring, being driven through a table by the Dudley Boyz at Backlash after she had been taunting Bubba Ray Dudley for several weeks.^[14] She also began managing Val Venis to win the Intercontinental Championship but their partnership ended at SummerSlam after Venis lost the title.^[4]

Stratus made her in-ring debut on the June 20 taping of SmackDown!, winning a tag team match with T & A against the Hardy Boyz and Lita. A storyline feud between Stratus and Lita developed after the match with Stratus attacking Lita on episodes of Raw and SmackDown!, leading to an Indian Strap match on the July 24 edition of Raw which Stratus won with help from Stephanie McMahon.^[1] She finished the year competing unsuccessfully for the WWF Women's Championship numerous times, and leaving Test and Albert when the team disbanded.^[15]

In early 2001, Stratus became involved in an angle with WWF Chairman Vince McMahon, during a time when Vince's wife Linda was kayfabe institutionalized following a demand Vince had made for a divorce during an episode of SmackDown! on December 7 2000.^[4]^[16] Vince and Stratus' relationship increasingly angered the boss' daughter, Stephanie McMahon.^[2]^[7] At No Way Out on February 25, Stratus and Stephanie squared off, with Stephanie scoring the victory after a run-in by William Regal.^[17] In the midst of a tag team match that pitted Vince and Stratus against Regal and Stephanie the next night on Raw, Stratus was the victim of a set-up by Vince, Stephanie and Regal. Regal executed his finisher, the Regal Cutter, on Stratus and Stephanie then dumped sewage over Stratus' body. Vince stood over Stratus, and he told her she was a toy that he had grown tired of playing with.^[18] The angle continued the next week on Raw with Vince forcing Stratus to strip down to her lingerie in the ring and bark like a dog.^[19] The storyline came to an end at WrestleMania X-Seven when Stratus slapped Vince during his match against his son Shane,^[2] turning face in the process.^[4]^[20]^[21]

Stratus then began wrestling full-time. She won a Bra and Panties tag team match with Lita against Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson at InVasion.^[7] However, after suffering an ankle injury in the summer, she was sidelined for three months.^[22] As she rehabilitated, she kept herself visible by co-hosting Excess on TNN.^[7] After returning in autumn, Stratus appeared at Survivor Series where she won the WWF Women's Championship for the first time in a six-pack challenge.

Stratus was next involved in a feud with Jazz over the Women's Championship, retaining the title at the Royal Rumble but being booked to lose the belt to Jazz two weeks later on the February 4, 2002 edition of Raw.^[25]^[26]^[27] Stratus then went after the title for several months, even competing in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania X8 against Lita and Jazz in her hometown of Toronto, Canada but failed to win the match.^[9]^[28] While chasing after the Women's title, Stratus won the WWE Hardcore Championship on May 6, pinning Crash Holly after Bubba Ray Dudley hit him over the head with a trash can.^[4]^[23]^[29] However, she lost the title to Steven Richards soon afterwards due to the stipulation that the belt was defended 24/7 as long as there was a referee present.^[4]^[23] One week later, she regained the Women's Title in a tag team match with Bubba Ray Dudley.^[30] During this time, Stratus began wrestling solely on the Raw brand after being drafted in the WWF Brand Extension.^[31]

Stratus' second reign as champion came to an end on June 23 when she was defeated at King of the Ring by Molly Holly.^[32] The two Divas continued their storyline feud for the next three months. After a failed attempt to win the title in July, Stratus won back the championship at Unforgiven.^[33]^[34] While feuding with Holly, Stratus was also involved in an angle with new Diva Victoria who held a kayfabe grudge against Stratus, claiming she was betrayed by Stratus when they worked as fitness models.^[4] The two competed in several title matches, with Stratus retaining until Survivor Series where Victoria won the belt in a Hardcore match.

Stratus started 2003 by being named Diva of the Decade during Raw's 10th anniversary special.^[7] On March 17, 2003, Victoria and Steven Richards defeated Jazz and Stratus in tag team competition. After the match, Jeff Hardy saved Stratus from an attack by both Victoria and Richards.^[38] In the following weeks, Stratus and Hardy were shown talking backstage and fighting as tag team partners.^[39] However, the storyline was dropped when Hardy was released from WWE.^[4]

At WrestleMania XIX Stratus defeated Victoria and Jazz to capture her fourth Women's Championship, equaling the record previously set by The Fabulous Moolah, only to lose the title to Jazz at the following pay-per-view, Backlash.^[40]^[41] In the following months, Stratus was placed into an alliance with Gail Kim. However, it was short-lived when Kim turned on Stratus and teamed with Molly Holly, putting the women in a storyline feud.^[4]^[42] The duo defeated Stratus and several tag team partners until Stratus began to partner with Lita.^[43]^[44]^[45] The team defeated Kim and Holly in several matches, including a match at Unforgiven.^[46]^[47]

Stratus was booked to win the WWE Women's Championship for a fifth time at Bad Blood on June 13.^[57] She defended the title until she suffered a legitimate broken hand in July that caused her to be out of action for approximately a month.^[58]^[59] Upon her return she continued to defend the title against numerous challengers before dropping the championship to Lita during a match on December 6.^[7] Stratus recaptured the gold a month later at New Year's Revolution after Lita suffered a legitimate injury during a rematch.^[60] A new angle was then developed between Stratus and 2004 Raw Diva Search winner Christy Hemme over jealousy of Hemme's Playboy magazine exposure, with Stratus attacking Hemme and spray painting the word "slut" across her back.^[61]^[62]^[63] Stratus was challenged by Hemme, who later revealed she was being trained by Lita, for a title match at WrestleMania 21 and was successful in retaining the title.^[61]^[64]^[65]

In May 2005 Stratus was sidelined with the Women's Championship after suffering a herniated disc, with the storyline explanation that Viscera had injured her at Backlash after she berated him for losing to Lita's kayfabe husband Kane.^[7]^[22] She returned to Raw in September, once again portraying her face persona by siding with Ashley Massaro against Vince's Devils.^[66] The feud also involved the debuting Diva Mickie James who introduced herself as Stratus' biggest fan.^[7] On the Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show, Stratus took part in an interpromotional Diva battle royal that was won by SmackDown! Diva Melina.^[67] The next week, MNM kayfabe kidnapped Stratus for Melina, who challenged a tied up and gagged Stratus to a match for the Women's Championship.^[68] The two fought at Survivor Series, with Stratus defeating Melina after interference from Mickie James.^[69] Stratus and James continued teaming together in late 2005 while James' character became increasingly obsessed with Stratus.^[70] On the December 26 episode of Raw, the storyline between Stratus and James developed into a lesbian angle when James initiated an intimate kiss with Stratus under a sprig of mistletoe, causing a surprised Stratus to flee the locker roomn romance with Lita at the time, about who could sleep with their respective woman first.^[50] One week later, Stratus and Lita confronted the men about their actions, leading to a feud between the two men and women which resulted in a "Battle of the Sexes" match at Armageddon which the women lost.^[51]^[52] A rematch the next night ended in a no contest.

The angle between Stratus and James continued into 2006, with the two Divas competing against each other in a title match at New Year's Revolution, where Stratus emerged victorious.^[72] Despite the defeat, James continued to be enamored of Stratus which made her feel uncomfortable.^[73] On March 6, 2006 Stratus confronted James, telling her that she needed space.^[74] The duo briefly reconciled on the March 18 Saturday Night's Main Event, teaming together to defeat Candice Michelle and Victoria. However, James turned on Stratus after the match and began to attack her.^[75] A match at WrestleMania 22 saw Stratus lose the Women's Championship to James.^[76] During a rematch at Backlash Stratus suffered a legitimate dislocated shoulder after taking a bump to the outside of the ring.^[77] While she was rehabilitating for six weeks she continued to appear on-screen and be involved in storylines.^[4]^[78]

On June 3, 2006, she hosted the Canada's Walk of Fame induction ceremony and performed a song and dance number inspired by the soundtrack from the film Chicago at the event.^[91]^[92] During the show, Stratus ad libbed a kiss with fellow Canadian actress Pamela Anderson.^[84]^[91]^[93]

From late November 2006 to mid-January 2007, Stratus temporarily moved to Muncie, Indiana for the CBS reality show Armed & Famous.^[12]^[94]^[95] She was given a spot in the series after Paul Heyman had mentioned her name to CBS.^[12] The concept was that she was one of five celebrities who trained as volunteer officers with the Muncie Police Department.^[96] After finishing her training, Stratus and her real life officer partner were followed around by a camera crew while going on legitimate police calls.^[94] Although the show was scheduled to broadcast seven episodes starting on January 10, 2007, CBS canceled the series after just four of the episodes were aired.^[12]^[96]^[97]

She also announced that she would be having her own travel show also called Stratusphere.atches, with Stratus and Carlito jobbing to Edge and Lita each time.^[81]^[82] In late August, Lita stated that Stratus would retire following Unforgiven, which was later confirmed by Stratus.^[83] At the pay-per-view on September 17, in her hometown of Toronto,^[84] Stratus defeated Lita with fellow Canadian Bret Hart's signature submission maneuver, the Sharpshooter, to win a record seventh Women's Championship and retire as champion.

Amy Christine Dumas^[4] (born April 14, 1975),^[3] better known by her ring name Lita, is an American former professional wrestler and valet. During her stint with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) from 2000–2006, she became one of the most popular female wrestling performers in the sports entertainment company's history.^[5]

After briefly working on the independent circuit and in Extreme Championship Wrestling, Dumas signed with the World Wrestling Federation in 1999. Originally, she was paired with Essa Rios,^[6]^[7] but she achieved her greatest push alongside Matt and Jeff Hardy as Team Xtreme. Throughout her career, she won the WWE Women's Championship four times.^[8]

Dumas had an off-screen relationship with Matt Hardy, which ended in 2005 after her affair with Adam Copeland.^[2]^[8] WWE used the real-life drama between the trio as a storyline throughout 2005 and 2006, which led to Dumas being booed by the fans for the first time and her character becoming more villainous on-screen.^[2]^[8]^[9] The relationship also led to the legitimate release of Hardy in 2005,^[10] although he was rehired later in the year.

Dumas attended many different schools throughout her childhood and adolescent years and managed to finish high school at Lassiter High School six months before graduation.^[11] She majored in education at Georgia State University,^[11] but dropped out in 1993 because she felt it was too much like high school.^[8]

Later, in Washington D.C., Dumas played bass guitar in several bands,^[2]^[8] and she worked as a roadie for a band for five years. She began taking judo and kickboxing classes and started wrestling.

Dumas first became interested in wrestling after watching Rey Mysterio, Jr., a Mexican luchador, wrestle on an episode of World Championship Wrestling's WCW Monday Nitro.^[3]^[13] She traveled to Mexico in 1998 to learn more about the sport and how to wrestle.^[3]^[8] Dumas financed her training by dancing in a club under the pseudonym Misty.^[14] During her stay in Mexico, Dumas trained under numerous wrestlers, including Kevin Quinn, Miguel Perez, and Ricky Santana.^[2] Following the completion of her training, Dumas made several appearances with the Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre.^[2]

After returning to the United States, Dumas began working as a valet on the independent circuit.^[8] She worked in Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) under the ring name Angelica, at one point managing Christopher Daniels.^[2] She also made appearances in NWA Mid-Atlantic, where she first met Matt and Jeff Hardy, who offered to train with her.^[2]^[3]

In the spring of 1999, she was approached by Paul Heyman, the owner and booker of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).^[2]^[3] Dumas debuted in ECW as Miss Congeniality,^[7] the on-screen girlfriend of Danny Doring.^[6] Dumas later began using the name Angelica once again and made her pay-per-view debut on July 18 at Heat Wave where Doring, as part of their storyline, proposed to her.^[6]

Dumas was introduced to veteran wrestler Dory Funk, Jr. by ECW wrestler Rob Van Dam, and Funk invited her to attend his wrestling school, The Funkin' Conservatory.^[3]^[6] Dumas attended Funk's school alongside twenty-three men,^[8] graduated from the school in August 1999, and returned to ECW.^[6] Meanwhile, Funk and his wife compiled video footage of Dumas and sent it to the World Wrestling Federation.^[3]^[8] The Federation was sufficiently impressed, and on November 1, 1999, Dumas was signed to a WWF developmental deal. 1999–2000

After honing her skills at the Memphis Championship Wrestling developmental territory, Dumas was given the ring name Lita and paired with luchador Essa Rios.^[6]^[7] Lita and Rios made their WWF debut on the February 13, 2000 episode of Sunday Night HEAT, where Rios was booked to win the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship from Gillberg.^[2] Lita mimicked his moves, notably the Moonsault and Hurricanrana, immediately after he had performed them on an opponent.^[2] In May 2000, a storyline was developed in which Lita found Rios cavorting with The Godfather and his hoes, causing tension between them.^[2] Rios eventually turned on Lita by powerbombing her after she inadvertently cost him a match. As part of the storyline, Lita was saved from a beating at the hands of Rios by the Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff),^[2] and the trio formed a stable known as Team Xtreme.^[7] As a member of Team Xtreme, Lita developed a more "alternative" image, wearing baggy pants with a thong, which was hiked up high above her pants, clearly exposed.^[15] During her time with Team Xtreme, Lita became the only female to ever be physically involved in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match in WWE.^[16]

In June 2000, Team Xtreme began a storyline with T & A (Test and Albert), with Lita engaging in a rivalry with their manager, Trish Stratus.^[1]^[6] The rivalry developed into an off and on long term feud between the two women that lasted until Stratus retired in 2006. The storyline ended shortly after Fully Loaded, where Lita pinned Stratus in a six person intergender tag team match.^[6] Subsequently, Lita began feuding with WWF Women's Champion Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley.^[3] In the main event of the August 21, 2000 episode of RAW is WAR, Lita defeated Stephanie with a moonsault to win the Women's Championship for the first time.^[3]^[6]^[17] The match also featured The Rock as the Special Guest Referee and constant interference from Triple H and Kurt Angle.^[17]

Lita held the Women's Championship for seventy-three days,^[17] which included retaining her title in a hardcore match against Jacqueline on October 9.^[18] In the course of her reign, Lita became embroiled in the storyline feud between the Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian. In retaliation for her frequent interference in their matches, Edge and Christian cost Lita the Women's Championship, helping Ivory defeat her in a four way match on the November 2 episode of SmackDown.^[3]^[19] Ivory was in a conservative-based stable named Right to Censor at that time, which targeted Lita for her attire and moves. Lita attempted to regain the title on several occasions, wrestling Ivory at Survivor Series and Rebellion, but she was thwarted on each occasion by Steven Richards, Ivory's mentor. She spent the remainder of the year in a storyline with would-be suitor Dean Malenko,^[2]^[3] on one occasion unsuccessfully challenging him for the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.

2001–2002

Lita continued to feud with Dean Malenko in early 2001, and she defeated him in a singles bout on the February 19 episode of RAW is WAR with the assistance of Matt Hardy. Following the match, Hardy kissed Lita, beginning their on-screen relationship and turning their real-life romance into a storyline.^[2]^[20] The couple wrestled in several intergender tag team matches throughout the early part of the year.

In July 2001, Lita and Trish Stratus joined forces to combat Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson, members of The Alliance: Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling wrestlers who were invading the WWF as part of The Invasion storyline.^[1] At the Invasion pay-per-view on July 22, Lita and Stratus defeated Keibler and Wilson in the first ever tag team bra and panties match by stripping their opponents to their underwear.^[1] Throughout The Invasion, Lita, Stratus, and Jacqueline feuded with Alliance members Keibler, Wilson, Ivory, and Mighty Molly. The Invasion storyline ended on November 18 at Survivor Series, where Lita took part in a six pack challenge for the WWF Women's Championship, which had been vacated by Chyna earlier that year; Stratus won the match and the title.^[21]

In late 2001, the Hardy Boyz began a storyline in which they were feuding with one another.^[20]^[22] Lita refereed a match between them at Vengeance on December 9.^[2]^[22] Jeff won the match with a scripted finish that had Lita failing to notice that Matt had placed his leg on the rope during Jeff's successful pin attempt. Continuing the storyline on the following episode of Raw, Matt defeated Lita and Jeff in a handicap match, shortly after informing Lita that both their relationship and the Hardy Boyz were finished.^[23] On the December 17 episode of Raw, both Jeff and Lita were sidelined with storyline injuries following a title match between Jeff and WWF Hardcore Champion The Undertaker.^[1] The injuring of both his brother and ex-girlfriend led to a reconciliation between the members of Team Xtreme, and on the December 20 episode of SmackDown!, Matt Hardy faced The Undertaker but was also injured. All three members of Team Xtreme were then removed from WWF television for several weeks.

The Hardy Boyz, along with Lita, returned to WWF television in February 2002.^[1]^[24] Lita resumed her pursuit of the WWF Women's Championship in March 2002 and made her in-ring WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania X8 on March 17, facing Stratus and WWF Women's Champion Jazz in a match in which Jazz retained her title by pinning Lita.^[25]

2002–2003

On April 6, 2002, Dumas suffered what appeared to be a stinger while filming a fight scene for a role in the season finale of the television program Dark Angel.^[8]^[26] The rehearsal required that she practice the hurricanrana that would be used in the episode, however, the stunt double Dumas was working with dropped her as she swung through the move, causing her to land on her neck and shoulders.^[1]^[27] After she underwent a CAT scan, it was revealed that she had suffered three cracks in her vertebrae, necessitating surgery.^[2]^[28] On April 30, Dumas underwent neck surgery under Dr. Lloyd Youngblood, during which he used a section of her hip to fuse her C5 and C6 vertebrae together. She spent the subsequent year rehabilitating, making appearances on Sunday Night HEAT as a color commentator, beginning in October 2002.^[27]^[29] On the April 21, 2003 episode of Raw, as part of a new storyline, she was fired from her position as Sunday Night HEAT color commentator by General Manager Eric Bischoff after she rejected his advances and his request that she follow in the footsteps of SmackDown!'s Torrie Wilson and pose for Playboy.^[2]^[27]

She returned to the ring after an absence of seventeen months on the September 15 episode of Raw, saving Trish Stratus from a beating at the hands of Molly Holly and Gail Kim.^[1]^[2] Co-General Manager Stone Cold Steve Austin later explained to Eric Bischoff that he had rehired Lita. Lita and Stratus went on to defeat Holly and Kim in a tag team match on September 21 at Unforgiven. Lita feuded with Holly into late 2003, unsuccessfully challenging her for the Women's Championship on November 16 at Survivor Series.^[2] On the November 17 episode of Raw, Lita and Matt Hardy were reunited after Hardy was moved from SmackDown! to Raw.^[30] Continuing the storyline, Holly interrupted as Hardy was about to propose to Lita, challenging the duo to face her and Bischoff in an intergender tag team match later that evening.^[30] Bischoff later added the stipulation that Lita would earn a title shot if she won but would be fired if she lost.^[30] Hardy and Lita lost the match after Hardy refused to tag in, with Hardy berating Lita for "selfishly" returning to Raw instead of SmackDown!, claiming that this showed that she cared more about the Women's Championship than about him.^[30] Lita was rehired later that evening when Christian informed her that he had used his Survivor Series favor to get Bischoff to reinstate her.^[2] One week later, Lita lost to Victoria in the first ever women's steel cage match in WWE history, due to interference from Matt Hardy.^[31]

As Lita and Christian appeared to be developing an on-screen relationship, so did Stratus and Chris Jericho.^[2] On the December 1, 2003 episode of Raw, however, it was revealed that Christian and Jericho had bet one another "one Canadian dollar" as to who could seduce Lita and Stratus respectively first.^[2]^[32] The revelation led to a storyline feud between Lita and Stratus and Christian and Jericho, with the males triumphing in a "Battle of the Sexes" match at Armageddon.^[33]

2004–2005

Lita competed in the Women's division throughout early 2004, winning a battle royal to become the number one contender for the Women's Championship on the April 5 episode of Raw. Victoria defeated Lita to retain the Women's Championship at Backlash on April 18. The next night on Raw, Lita was reunited with Matt Hardy when Hardy attacked Kane in an attempt to prevent him from harming Lita, beginning a new storyline involving the trio.^[34] In the following weeks, Kane began repeatedly assaulting Hardy and attempting to seduce Lita. During the course of the storyline, he kidnapped Lita and held her tied up backstage,^[34] and he persuaded Eric Bischoff to give her a title shot at Bad Blood on June 13. The next night on Raw, Lita revealed that she was pregnant.^[34] One week later, it appeared that Hardy was going to propose to Lita, but he was interrupted by Kane, who claimed to be the father of Lita's child, as Lita had slept with Kane to persuade him to stop attacking Hardy.^[2] Two months later, it was revealed that Kane was, in fact, the father. Hardy and Kane feuded for several months, culminating in a "Till Death Do Us Part" match on August 15 at SummerSlam, with the stipulation that Lita would be obliged to marry Kane should Hardy lose.^[35] Kane won the match, leading to he and a reluctant Lita marrying one another on the August 23, 2004 episode of Raw.^[2] Despite being married to Kane, Lita harried him during his matches, constantly aiding his opponents. On the September 13 episode of Raw, Lita miscarried after Gene Snitsky struck Kane with a chair, resulting in him falling on Lita.^[36] The miscarriage led to Lita and Kane joining forces in order to take revenge on Snitsky.^[2]

With the pregnancy storyline over, Lita returned to the women's division in November 2004. She began a feud with Trish Stratus after Stratus called Lita "chubby" because of her pregnancy weight gain. Lita challenged Stratus to a Women's Championship match at Survivor Series, however, due to the months of humiliation and being verbally berated by Stratus, Lita was more concerned with doing as much damage as possible, leading to her disqualification.^[37] The feud continued, and on December 6, Lita was booked to defeat Stratus in the main event of Raw to win her second WWE Women's Championship.^[37]^[38] During the course of the match, Lita botched a suicide dive to the outside when she over rotated by a fraction, barely escaping serious injury.^[38] This move was later used in the build up to the title rematch she was booked for at New Year's Revolution against Stratus, who claimed, "You had to practically kill yourself to take the title from me". She defeated Lita, ending her second reign as Women's Champion on January 9, 2005 at New Year's Revolution.^[39] In the course of the match, Lita tore her left ACL after executing a Thesz press off the ring apron.

Lita returned to WWE television in March 2005, mentoring Christy Hemme, who was in the midst of a storyline with Stratus that featured a title match between them at WrestleMania 21.^[2] Despite Lita's coaching, Hemme was defeated by Stratus.^[41] Lita continued to feud with Stratus by proxy over the following weeks, with Kane defeating Stratus' companion, Viscera, at Backlash on May 1.^[42] The relationship between Lita and Kane lasted until the May 16 episode of Raw, when Lita took on a villainous role by betraying Kane, helping Edge defeat him in the finals of the Raw Gold Rush Tournament.^[2] On the May 30 episode of Raw, Lita announced that she had filed for divorce, flushing her wedding ring down a toilet.^[43] She then attempted to marry Edge on the June 20 episode of Raw, but the marriage ceremony was interrupted by a vengeful Kane, who emerged from beneath the ring.^[44] The storyline with Kane ended shortly thereafter.

Off-screen, at this time, Dumas had been involved with Matt Hardy romantically, but began a relationship with Adam Copeland (Edge).^[2]^[8] WWE then began to use the real-life issues between the three as an on-screen storyline.^[8] In April, Hardy was released from WWE,^[10] only to be rehired several months later.^[45] Lita continued to act as Edge's valet, and Edge defeated Hardy at SummerSlam. On the October 3 episode of Raw, Edge, with the assistance of Lita, defeated Hardy in a ladder match, and Hardy was obliged to leave Raw as a stipulation of the match.^[2]

2006–2007

After Edge defeated John Cena to win the WWE Championship on January 8 at New Year's Revolution, he announced that he and Lita were going to celebrate by having sex in the middle of the ring the next night on Raw.^[2] During the segment, Lita and Edge stripped to their underwear before retreating beneath the covers of a bed that had been erected in the ring. The event was interrupted by Ric Flair, leading to Edge leaving the bed to fight him. Lita, left alone, hastily redressed as Cena entered the ring and attacked her, delivering an FU to her.^[46] Lita's bare breast was momentarily shown during the segment.^[2] This "Live Sex Celebration" segment earned Raw a 5.2 rating, its highest ratings in over a year.^[47]^[48] On the February 6 episode of Raw, Lita teamed with Edge in a loss to Cena and Maria.^[49] She continued to manage Edge into mid-2006, frequently interfering on his behalf during his feud with Mick Foley. In May 2006, Foley joined forces with Edge and Lita, with the trio defeating Foley's ECW rivals Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, and Beulah McGillicutty in an impromptu six person tag team match at One Night Stand after Edge speared and pinned Beulah.^[50]

On the August 14 episode of Raw, Lita was booked to defeat Mickie James to win her third Women's Championship.^[51] She also defeated James in their rematch on the August 28 episode of Raw by using the ropes for extra leverage during the pin.^[52] Lita and Edge then feuded with Trish Stratus and Carlito, culminating in a bout between Lita and Stratus at Unforgiven, in which Lita dropped the Women's Championship to Stratus in what was Stratus' last WWE match.^[53] After defeating both Candice Michelle and Maria in the semifinals of a Women's Championship tournament, Lita, as part of her last push, defeated Mickie James at Cyber Sunday to capture the vacant title and begin her fourth reign as Women's Champion.^[54] On the November 20 edition of Raw, after defeating Mickie James in a non-title match, Lita announced that she would be retiring from WWE after her match with James at Survivor Series.^[55]

Because of the off-screen issues with Matt Hardy, fans began to shout obscenities to her during her matches.^[8] By November, Dumas had decided to let her contract expire and retire.^[8] At Survivor Series, on November 26, 2006, Lita was pinned by Mickie James, losing the Women's Championship in her final match in WWE.^[1] The day after her retirement, Lita stated that her plans to retire began around mid-2005, when the feud between Edge and Matt Hardy was at its height.^[9] Because of her involvement in the feud, the harassment she received from some fans was so strong that she felt as if "even when [she] was walking the dog there was going to be someone yelling 'You screwed Matt!' out the window."^[9] Eventually, she became so fed up with the treatment she was receiving from these fans, she decided that the only way to avoid such harassment was to retire altogether.

Drew started in the wrestling business in January 1999 as a manager in IWF.^[5] She also began training to become a wrestler around that time with Gino Caruso at ECPW and worked as a manager and an occasional wrestler in various federations on the east coast.^[5] By 2003, she was working primarily as a wrestler.^[5] She bounced around the independent circuit until September 2005. The same year Drew started wrestling for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) relocating to Louisville, Kentucky.^[6] In 2006, Drew was signed to a developmental contract by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Ohio Valley Wrestling

Drew made her debut as Cherry Pie, valet of The Throwbacks (Deuce and Domino) in Ohio Valley Wrestling.^[2] She became part of their 1950s gimmick, wearing poodle skirts and roller skates and chewing gum at all times.^[5] In mid 2006, she dropped the "Pie" part of her ring name to become known as "Cherry".^[2] At the end of 2006, Shawn Spears and Cody Runnels defeated The Throwbacks in a tag team match, and won the services of Cherry.^[2]^[7] Cherry accompanied Spears and Runnels to ringside, and soon Spears began to have a crush on her, which began interfering in their matches.^[2]^[8]^[9] Cherry turned on Spears and Runnels, however, and helped Deuce 'n Domino win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship.^[2]^[10]

SmackDown!

Cherry made her WWE debut on the January 19, 2007 edition of Smackdown! managing Deuce 'n Domino,^[11] though she was rarely physically involved in their matches. On the April 20, edition of SmackDown!, Cherry was in the corner of Deuce 'n Domino when they captured the WWE Tag Team Titles.^[12]^[13]

On March 7, 2008 edition of SmackDown! Cherry competed in a Swimsuit Contest, along with Maryse, Victoria, Eve Torres, and Michelle McCool.^[14]^[15] On the March 28, 2008 episode of SmackDown! Cherry turned face by teaming with Michelle McCool to defeat Victoria and Maryse. World Wrestling Entertainment

2004–2005

In July 2004, Michelle auditioned to be a contestant for World Wrestling Entertainment's Raw Diva Search.^[4]^[25] Despite not being chosen to be in the final ten,^[4] she was hired by the company under the gimmick of a makeup artist.^[1]^[9] She competed on Raw in several Diva contests, including lingerie fashion shows and limbo contests, until the end of the year.^[26]^[27]

In January, Candice appeared at New Year's Revolution in the first ever Bra and Panties Gauntlet match, where she was eliminated by Maria.^[35] After winning a number one contender's Diva battle royal on Raw match, but lost to then-champion , Candice got her first singles WWE Women's ChampionshipTrish Stratus on February 27.^[36]^[37] After the match, Candice slapped Wilson, kayfabe blaming her for the loss.^[37] Vince's Devils later broke up when Wilson turned face after Candice and Victoria turned on her during Candice's Playboy cover unveiling.^[13] This feud led to a match at WrestleMania 22 in which both Playboy cover girls competed in a Playboy Pillow Fight.^[38] Wilson won the match, but the feud continued sporadically in backstage segments where Candice was Vince McMahon's kayfabe "sex slave".

On the July 17 edition of Raw, Candice was the Special Guest Referee during a tag team match of Stratus and Wilson against Victoria and Mickie James. Mickie James entered the match without being tagged in so Candice threw her out of the ring. Afterwards, Victoria tried to clothesline Candice but she ducked out of the way, allowing Stratus to hit the Stratusfaction for the victory. As a result, Candice turned face.^[40] On the Raw following Unforgiven, Candice won a match against Lita.^[41] The next week, in her second match against Lita, Candice was pinned after she was speared by Guest Referee Edge, in the first round of the WWE Women's Championship tournament.^[42] On the November 27 edition of Raw, during the Diva battle royal, Candice suffered a legitimate broken nose when Victoria kicked her in the face.^[43] She had surgery on November 30 to repair her deviated septum.^[44]

Candice returned at New Year's Revolution on January 7, when she went to the ring with Maria to fight off Melina as she tried to interfere in the WWE Women's Championship match between then-champion Mickie James and Victoria.^[45] Candice made her in-ring return on January 22 when she and Mickie James defeated Victoria and Melina in a tag team match with Candice scoring the pinfall.^[46] Candice then resumed her feud with Melina, who claimed in her blogs that all Playboy cover models were not capable of fighting her in the ring.^[47] Candice took offense to this, which led to a Bra and Panties Match between the two, which she lost.^[48] During this time, Candice began training on her off-days to improve her in-ring abilities.^[4] Weeks later, Candice was pushed and won tag matches that pitted her with Mickie James against Victoria and Melina. She also picked up several wins against the latter two in singles matches, which culminated at One Night Stand, where Candice defeated Melina in the first ever Pudding Match.^[49]^[50]^[51] Candice defeated Melina to capture her first WWE Women's Championship at Vengeance, becoming the first ever WWE Diva Search contestant to win the Women's Title.^[14] Candice retained her title against Melina in a rematch at The Great American Bash as well as debuting a new finisher called the Candywrapper.^[52]

Beth Phoenix became the number one contender for the Women's Title after winning a tri-branded Diva battle royal at SummerSlam.^[53] However, at the Unforgiven pay-per-view, Candice successfully retained her title in their match by countering one of Phoenix's moves with a crucifix pin.^[54] Their feud continued when Phoenix pinned Candice during a non-title mixed tag team match on Raw on September 24. At No Mercy on October 7, Candice dropped the title to Phoenix, ending her reign as Women's Champion.^[55] On October 22, Candice legitimately cracked her clavicle during her rematch for the Women's Title against Phoenix in a two out of three falls match; as Phoenix pushed herself into the ropes causing Candice to fall off of the turnbuckle onto her head, neck and shoulders and was put out of action for 14 weeks.^[56]^[57]

2008–present

Candice made her off-screen return at the February 6, 2008 Raw brand house show in Alaska.^[58] Candice made her on-screen return on the February 18 edition of Raw, distracting Beth Phoenix during a match with Maria. She returned to in-ring action on March 17, teaming up with Maria to defeat Jillian Hall and Victoria.^[59] During the match, Candice injured her left shoulder by tearing the scar tissue over her previously broken left clavicle.^[59] Unlike her previous injury, this time Candice broke her clavicle in four separate places, in essence, shattering it.^[60] Candice was replaced by Ashley for her scheduled match at WrestleMania XXIV. On March 23, Candice underwent successful surgery on her re-broken clavicle.^[8]

Elizabeth Carolan née Kocanski (born November 24, 1980) better known by her ring name Beth Phoenix, is an American professional wrestler currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment wrestling on the Raw brand.

Amateur wrestling and early career

Elizabeth Carolan began wrestling on the Elmira, New York Notre Dame High School scholastic wrestling team. She was the first female varsity wrestler in her high school's history. She became the North-East freestyle women's champion (72 kg weight class) in 1999. She also became the women's champion (72 kg weight class) at the New York State Fair Tournament in 1999 and was named the most outstanding wrestler that same year in the Brockport Freestyle Tournament. At the time she was also a member of USA Wrestling (a freestyle wrestling club).^[3] Her life goal was, according to her, to become a professional wrestler and she believed that having a solid amateur background would help her reach it.^[3]

After graduating from high school in 1999, she enrolled in both a professional wrestling school and Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Her first choice for wrestling school was Stu Hart's Dungeon, but because of the location she decided on a more local school. At the school, she was trained by the "All Knighters"--Joey Knight and Robin Knightwing, who themselves had trained in the Hart Dungeon.^[3] Her professional wrestling debut match was against Alexis Laree,^[3] and she made the rounds competing with various independent promotions against both male and female wrestlers. In one match against Lexis Wine for the now defunct MadMar Entertainment, her back was accidentally cut open by a steel chair.

Ohio Valley Wrestling

Beth debuted on Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) television in July 2004 as the on-screen girlfriend and valet of Chris Masters. The angle was short lived, and the following month Beth was repackaged as the manager of Aaron "The Idol" Stevens. The duo was then joined by Shelly Martinez who Beth soon feuded with in early 2006. Beth then stopped appearing regularly on OVW after debuting on WWE's Raw television show.

On August 16, 2006, Beth returned to action in OVW as the surprise opponent for Serena in a number one contenders match - she was hand picked by OVW Women's Champion ODB herself to be the opponent. After a distraction from Charles Evans, Phoenix picked up the win hitting Serena. The following week, both Serena & Phoenix wanted a title shot, so ODB said if they can beat her in a tag match, the pinfall winner would receive a shot. Serena won the match for her and Beth's team by pinning newcomer Katie Lea (but only after Beth was forced to leave the ring as she was not the legal woman in the match). So, in the interest of fairness, the following week, it was announced that there would be a women's battle royal with the title on the line - Beth, Serena, Katie Lea, and ODB were the final four women in the ring, with ODB eventually coming out on top. The following week, ODB put her women's title on the line in a four-way match that also featured Beth, Serena & Katie Lea. Serena won the match, but after the match Phoenix laid out Serena with her newly won belt. At the October 4, 2006 OVW TV tapings, Beth defeated Serena to capture the OVW Women's Championship. On the November 4, 2006 show, Beth lost the OVW women's title to Katie Lea in a gauntlet match - defeating Roni Jonah, Melody, Ariel, and Jenny Mae first. Lea, Serena, ODB, and Beth were the final four in the match with Lea taking the win.

Phoenix and Lea entered into a feud with each other, with Beth claiming that Lea never defeated her for her title so she was still the champion; Beth even came out with her own version of the OVW Women's Championship. This brought out Danny Basham OVW's TroubleShooter, who told Beth her title was not real, and that after doing some digging Lea's title was not real either. Basham set up a ladder match where the winner would become the undisputed OVW Women's Champion. Lea won the match, and was presented with the title belt on the first show of 2007. Phoenix took the belt from Basham, and after taking a look for herself, handed the Belt to Lea and shook her hand. In early 2007, Beth became involved in a "love triangle" along with Dan Rodman and Jacob Duncan. After the "love triangle" angle ended, Beth continued to manage Jacob Duncan in OVW. Beth made her last appearance in OVW at their August 15, 2007 TV tapings where she lost to Katie Lea in a No.1 contenders match and then joined the main World Wrestling Entertainment roster full-time.^[4]

World Wrestling Entertainment

2006–2007

Beth Phoenix debuted on the May 8, 2006 episode of Raw as a face attacking then heel, Mickie James during James' assault on Trish Stratus. After this incident, James berated Phoenix for "ruining everything" and questioned why she even showed up in the first place.^[5] A week later, Phoenix was formally introduced by Stratus and then battered a distracted James on Stratus' behalf. When James finally escaped, Phoenix claimed that James had ruined her life and would not let her get away with it, before calling her a psycho.^[6] On the following edition of Raw, Phoenix, now an official Raw diva, again attacked the then Women's Champion after her match with Torrie Wilson.^[7] Then, on the May 29, 2006 episode of Raw, Beth teamed up with Wilson (with Stratus in their corner) to take on Candice Michelle and Victoria (with Mickie James in their corner). Phoenix got the pin on Candice.^[8] During the June 5, 2006 episode of Raw, Beth suffered a fractured mandible during a match with Victoria,^[9] but was victorious despite the injury.^[10] She was then out of action for two months after having surgery to place a titanium plate into her jaw.^[2]

On the July 9, 2007 edition of Raw, Phoenix returned as a heel when Melina claimed to be injured and needed a replacement as Jillian Hall's tag team partner.^[11] At the SummerSlam pay-per-view, Phoenix won the Interpromotional Divas Battle Royal to become the number one contender for Candice Michelle's Women's Championship.^[12] Phoenix was then pushed as a dominating Diva, calling herself a "Glamazon" and attacking Mickie James, Jillian Hall and Candice on the September 10 edition of Raw.^[13]^[14] However, at Unforgiven, she failed to capture the Women's Championship from Candice.^[15] Their storyline feud continued when Phoenix pinned Candice during a non-title mixed tag team match on Raw on September 24.^[16] At No Mercy, Phoenix defeated Candice to win her first Women's title.^[17]^[18] She retained her belt on the October 22 RAW in a 2-out-of-3 falls match; Michelle was injured by Phoenix's shaking the rope, causing her to fall off the top turnbuckle and legitimately break her clavicle.^[19]^[20]

Beth attacked Kelly Kelly on the October 29 edition of Raw after Kelly won the Halloween Costume Contest Battle Royal.^[21] The following week on Raw, Beth defeated Kelly in a non-title match.^[22] This cumulated into a 10 Divas Tag Match at Survivor Series, which Phoenix's team lost after Melina was pinned by Mickie James.^[23] On the November 26 edition of Raw, Mickie James defeated Melina in a number one contenders match for Phoenix's Women's Championship,^[24] setting up a title match between the two at Armageddon, a match in which Phoenix successfully defended her Women's title.^[25] On New Years Eve 2007, Phoenix successfully defended her title in a Triple Threat match against Melina and James, after pinning Melina.

2008–present

Beth along with old ally Melina took part in the Playboy BunnyMania Lumberjill match at WrestleMania 24 where she defeated Ashley and Maria by pinfall after a Fisherman Suplex.^[27] On April 14, Beth Phoenix faced Mickie James with her Women's Championship on the line and lost, ending her reign as champion.^[28] Beth also had a rematch on the May 5 edition of Raw but lost after Melina unintentionally hit her in the face with her boot. On May 11, edition of Raw Phoenix and Melina partnered up to go against Mickie James and Maria. During the match Melina unintentionally knocked Phoenix off of the ring apron resulting in Phoenix abandoning Melina which then would earn Mickie and Maria the three count to pick up the win. During a backstage segment along with Jillian Hall, Melina confronted Phoenix which then resulted in both Melina and Beth getting into a brawl with one another. At Judgment Day, Phoenix failed to regain the Women's Championship in a Triple Threat match after James pinned Melina to retain the title. At One Night Stand Beth defeated Melina in the first ever Divas "I Quit" match. The next night on Raw, Beth teamed with Katie Lea Burchill to defeat Melina and James in a tag team match, but was pinned by James one week later in a non-title match, and was once again attacked by Melina post-match.

She was the winner of the Raw Diva Search 2005 and was on the cover of the April 2007 issue of Playboy Magazine.^[3] She was a contestant on the fifteenth season of Survivor in China, but was the second contestant to be eliminated.

Massaro grew up in Long Island, New York, where her brother and father competed in amateur wrestling.^[2] She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication with a minor in Business from the State University of New York.

sexy Ashley Massaro, came to WWE in June 2005 as a contestant in the 2005 Raw Diva Search. After beating the seven other chosen finalists, Massaro was declared the winner on the August 15, 2005 edition of Raw. She won the $250,000 Diva Search contest which included the $250,000 and a one year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).^[1]^[4]

2005–2006

Ashley made her first WWE appearance as an official WWE Diva on the August 21, 2005 pre-SummerSlam edition of HEAT where she conducted interviews with the fans, The Fabulous Moolah, and Mae Young. Later that night, Massaro made her first appearance at a pay-per-view event when she joined the other bikini-clad divas in washing Mr. McMahon's presidential limo backstage.

The following night on Raw, WWE Divas Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson called out Massaro, claiming they wanted to welcome her to Raw. After Ashley came out, Candice and Wilson turned heel and started attacking Ashley.^[5] Ashley continued to feud with the two divas who were soon joined by Victoria. Victoria later defeated Ashley in her in-ring debut match.^[6] Ashley was later joined by the returning Trish Stratus, who helped Ashley fend off attacks from the three divas. The pair defeated the trio, who became known as the Ladies in Pink (and later Vince's Devils) on several occasions including at Unforgiven and at WWE Homecoming in a 3-on-2 Bra and Panties match.^[7] Ashley continued to wrestle matches through the rest of 2005 and was involved in the annual Fulfill Your Fantasy Diva Battle Royal at Taboo Tuesday for her first shot at the WWE Women's Championship. Ashley eliminated Candice Michelle before being eliminated by Victoria.

One of her biggest wins was at New Year's Revolution when Ashley won the first ever Bra and Panties Gauntlet match by being the final Diva left still wearing her clothes.^[8] Following WWE tradition, to please the fans, she removed them herself before making her exit.^[8]

Through the early part of 2006, Ashley became the victim of a series of vicious attacks from a jealous Mickie James. At the Royal Rumble, Mickie defeated Ashley with then Women's Champion, Trish Stratus, as the special guest referee.^[9] Ashley got her revenge one week later by pinning James in the rematch on Raw.^[10]

During the February 20, 2006 edition of Raw Ashley suffered a fractured left fibula while being eliminated from the Women's Battle Royal.^[11] Upon further medical consultation, it was announced on WWE.com that because of the spiral crack in her left fibula, Ashley would need surgery.^[11] She underwent the procedure to have a plate positioned in her leg in March 2006. During her recovery, Ashley still occasionally appeared on Raw as part of the Stratus/James feud, albeit in a non-active role.

On June 1, WWE's website announced that Ashley was the newest SmackDown! diva. She made her debut on the June 2 edition of SmackDown! as a special guest commentator during the Kristal Marshall vs. Jillian Hall match.^[12] Upon debuting on SmackDown!, Ashley aligned herself with Jillian Hall as they feuded with Michelle McCool and Kristal Marshall. She won her debut match on the July 21 edition of SmackDown!, where she teamed up with Hall and defeated McCool and Marshall.^[13] At The Great American Bash, Massaro won the Fatal Four Way Bra and Panties match.^[14] On the August 4 edition of SmackDown!, Ashley broke her knuckle in a match against Kristal Marshall.^[15]^[16]

Ashley returned to the ring on the September 8, 2006 edition of SmackDown! where she, Paul London, and Brian Kendrick defeated Idol Stevens, K.C. James and Michelle McCool in a Six-Person Mixed Tag Team match.^[17] Following the victory, Ashley became the valet for London and Kendrick, accompanying them to the ring for their matches on SmackDown! and pay-per-views.

2007–present

During the February 16, 2007 edition of SmackDown!, Ashley unveiled her Playboy cover.^[18] Surrounding the release of the magazine, Ashley engaged in a feud with Jillian Hall over who was the most talented Diva on SmackDown! and Halls' jealousy over Ashley's Playboy cover. At No Way Out, Ashley won the first ever Diva Invitational by removing her top to reveal her breasts which were covered with Playboy bunny pasties.^[19] Surrounding the release of the cover, Ashley continued to feud with Jillian, but also began a feud with then WWE Women's Champion, Raw's Melina. Melina was angry over the publicity Ashley had been receiving because of the cover and believed that she deserved more publicity than Ashley for being the Women's Champion.^[20] On an episode of SmackDown!, the rivalry was taken to the next level when a catfight broke out between the Divas on the inaugural edition of Miz TV.^[20] At WrestleMania 23, Melina defeated Ashley in a LumberJill match to retain her title.^[21]

After WrestleMania, Ashley continued as a valet for WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick. In storyline, on the April 13 episode of SmackDown!, Ashley was attacked by Jillian Hall.^[22] In reality, Ashley had loosened a screw in her ankle that needed to be surgically repaired by being reinserted into a plate in her ankle, which was inserted last year after Ashley legitimately fractured her tibia and fibula while in a battle royal.^[23] Ashley returned a couple months later seeking revenge on Jillian for injuring her. Her return was short lived when on the June 8 edition of SmackDown!, Ashley was kayfabe suspended indefinitely after accidentally spilling Mr. McMahon's coffee on him.^[24] In reality, Ashley was taking time off to participate on the show Survivor.

Ashley returned on January 7, 2008 to the RAW brand, winning a divas lingerie pillow fight against Maria, Jillian Hall, Melina, and Mickie James.^[25] Since her return, Ashley briefly had been on the house show circuit as Atlas DaBone's valet.^[26]^[27] Ashley replaced Candice Michelle due to her injury in the Playboy Bunnymania Lumberjack Match at Wrestlemania XXIV alongside Maria, losing to Beth Phoenix and Melina. Ashley also participated in a 12 Diva Tag Team Match at Backlash in which her team lost.
